Mission:
FAN provides advocacy, training and support to parents and caregivers of children who struggle with emotional or behavioral disorders, mental illness, learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, or substance abuse issues, or are court involved with their children.
Description:
Through the Family Advocacy Network (FAN), Mental Health America of the Triangle provides critical assistance to parents raising school-age children with emotional/behavioral issues, mental illness, learning differences, substance abuse problems and other challenges.
FAN’s compassionate, nonjudgmental support and services can be lifelines for parents juggling problems at school, extra medical needs, increased stress, strained relationships and lost work hours as they struggle to meet their children’s needs.
Organization role:
• Provide family to family or youth to youth support on an individual family or youth level (e.g., peer-to-peer, family support partners, parent navigators)
• Sponsor/run support groups for families or youth
• Provide education to families or youth on issues of interest
• Provide training and mentoring of family members or youth (e.g., to assume leadership roles, act as provider)
• Provide training and presentations to system of care/child serving agencies or community
• Provide technical assistance (e.g., to other family or youth organizations, child serving agencies)
