inadequately regulated facilities

Through spearheading our 'Care, not Coercion' Campaign, the Community Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Youth (CAFETY) primarily focuses on increasing awareness and accountability of inadequately regulated facilities using harmful punitive, aversive practices to induce change. These facilities are often known as behavior modification programs, character building schools, wilderness programs, therapeutic boarding schools, or non-traditional experiential programs.

The Community Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Youth (CAFETY) is a volunteer, youth-driven effort in support of the protection of the human rights of institutionalized youth experiencing behavioral, emotional and mental health difficulties. We have begun to engage in public education, outreach, grassroots advocacy and organizing, and alliance-building.
